Frequently asked questions:

In simple terms industrial design is design for manufacture, whether it is a production run of one or millions. It is problem solving and the fusion of art and engineering, incorporating the fields of ergonomics, anthropometrics, aesthetics along with manufacturing and materials know how.

Bortz Product Design is a dynamic, flexible and award winning design consultancy. It has decades of experience and is able to respond quickly and appropriately. Not only this, but you get direct access to the principle designer at staff designers rates.

And although winning awards is important, the fact that Bortz Product Design has clients that have been provided ongoing services for over 25 years is a testament to the level of quality provided.

A design brief is a document that helps the designer understand what the goal of the project is. It should set the desired result without limiting creativity or innovation.

It should set boundaries if there are any. As example, if  a particular process or material is integral to the business - such as a sheet metal company wanting to use its processes rather than outsource to a moulding company, then this should be stated. But if it is not imperative and only the best solution is being sorted, it should not.

It should include criteria such as anticipated production run size as this would determine how the product is to be produced, and the environment is used in as this would affect what materials are used.

If you choose a reputable consultancy like Bortz Product Design, they would keep you projects confidential as a matter of professional integrity, however it is always better to have a NDA (no-disclosure agreement) signed.
